Nothing, I guess. But I didn't intend to express a wish for more chars in microblogging. The reason I'm leaving is that microblogging is not very well suited to my purpose for trying it. I want to ventilate the stuff I don't want to post on my main blog, which I try to keep serious and sober etc. Normal blogging is better for that, at least for me. I don't like shaving every thought down to the absolute minimum number of words. It takes more time than writing more elaborate.
That is a point. Everybody can have everybody's attention if we agree to limit posts to the minuscule. And I am of course interested in attention as well. But microblogging is hard work if the only reason to do it is to attract attention. I'll try my luck with not doing anything instead. I'll sit back and wait for the mountain to come to me (via google search) :)
Lolol: http://vimeo.com/2841524/ Tumblr is soo super! Also: "sick" and "sexy as hell"! Thanks for the tip, rrees, but that video was really off-putting. I feel like I'm back in high school, being confused and alienated by hipsterism.
I guess I wouldn't want there to be no limit, but I'd wish that initial Jaiku posts have more than a 140-char limit. FriendFeed allows longer initial posts (I don't know exactly how many characters) and this works for me, especially if I'm asking a question and need to explain some background info.
Jezlyn, I've been checking out FriendFeed since you tipped me, and I'm really impressed with it. In fact, I've just recently blogged a wish for a service similar to it (in Norwegian, unfortunately). I'll have to gain some experience with it before I can make a final judgment, but it is definitely worth my invaluable time. Thank you!
My FriendFeed nick is "gormfeed". I'd like to hook up with any of you, if only for the sake of experiment. We can detach later if we're not on wavelength ;)
Btw, why isn't Jaiku on the list of feeds you can share with FF?
@Gormr: Oh hey, cool, someone tried FF because of my suggestion! :) I'll add you. I have a "Jaiku" friend list on FF so I can keep an eye on my Jaiku buddies there. If I didn't separate them out, I'd probably never see their posts. Some of my other FF buddies are quite active. :)

What would distinguish a microblog that allowed posts with unlimited length from a normal blog?

The benefit of the 140 char limit is of course that you don't end up having to read everyone else's 1000 char posts in a row... :)

I think Tumblr is a kind of answer of what blogging looks like between conventional blogs and microblogging.
Spontaneous and instanteous but slightly more fluid than a text message.

255 characters... it's a classic!

Sure, that'd probably work for someone as verbose as I can be. :)

You can share your Jaiku feed with FriendFeed. You just have to add the url of your feed e.g.: http://gormr.jaiku.com/atom
BTW you should take a look at their new beta version: http://beta.friendfeed.com/ It looks very much like Jaiku but I'm not sure I like it.

Thanks, adewale. Added.
I don't know about the beta version either. I liked seeing service icons.
